Base of Mnweni pass to Senqu river
We rise with the sun, ready to tackle the challenging day ahead. The journey begins with a gentle ascent next to the Chichi (pronounced Tshitshi in isiZulu) bush camp, serving as a perfect warm-up for the pass. As we continue, the ever-changing views unfold, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of this route. Prepare to be amazed as you are spoiled for choice with stunning vistas, from the awe-inspiring Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Mo cliffs to the majestic Mnweni Pinnacles. Senqu river to Mponjwane Cave
The success of this part of the hike relies on the collective performance of the group. While there is an option to camp by the river, the ascent to the cave presents breathtaking views of the surrounding region. Resting in the cave is a serene and well-deserved break, with the imposing presence of Mponjwana towering beside us (not to be confused with Cathedral Peak, despite their shared name).
HIKE BACK HOME BUT FIRST,
ROCKERIES PASS
The pass truly lives up to its name as the trail is rugged and demands a careful descent from all visitors. As we make our journey back down, we are treated to a breathtaking sight of a Cape vulture colony watching us pass beneath the Saddle. We then cross Ntonjelan' eNtshonalanga (West) and zigzag down the hill to cross Ntonjelan'eMpumalanga (East), gradually reintroducing ourselves to civilization and ultimately concluding our unforgettable journey.
