The Cathedral Peak and Didima area protects one of the most distinctive mountain skylines in the Drakensberg. Its ridges contain Cathedral Peak, the Bell, the Horns, the Chessmen and the dramatic Cathedral Range. The reserve includes indigenous forest, clear mountain streams, waterfalls, sandstone caves and the culturally significant Ndedema Gorge. Guided rock-art experiences reveal the extraordinary artistic heritage left by San communities who occupied the mountains over thousands of years. Popular experiences include Rainbow Gorge, Doreen Falls, Mushroom Rock, Neptune’s Pools, Cathedral Peak summit routes and guided visits into the Ndedema rock-art landscape.

Best Time to Visit
March to May for stable hiking conditions and autumn colour. September to November is best for wildflowers and flowing streams.
Permits & Fees
Ezemvelo conservation fees apply. Guided rock-art tours and specialised activities are charged separately. Overnight hikers must obtain permits and complete the mountain register.
