Peaceful mountain valleys beyond the travelled road.
Lotheni is a remote mountain reserve characterised by open grassland, deep valleys, rivers and sandstone outcrops. Its quieter setting makes it suitable for fly-fishing, birding, family walks, photography and wilderness hiking. The reserve lies within the broader Mkhomazi Wilderness landscape south of Giant’s Castle. Its mountain streams and undeveloped valleys provide a peaceful alternative to the busier Central Drakensberg gateways.
Best Time to Visit
March to May for clear weather and autumn colours. September to November for wildflowers, flowing rivers and moderate temperatures
Permits & Fees
Ezemvelo conservation fees apply. Fishing permits, accommodation, camping and overnight hiking fees are charged separately.
