Monks Cowl Nature Reserve

Monk’s Cowl is the principal public hiking gateway into the Champagne Valley section of the Drakensberg. It is surrounded by some of the range’s most recognisable formations, including Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak, Sterkhorn and the Dragon’s Back. The reserve offers accessible waterfalls and river walks as well as demanding routes onto the contour path and escarpment. Popular destinations include Sterkspruit Falls, the Sphinx, Breakfast Stream, Blind Man’s Corner, Keartland’s Pass and routes towards Gray’s Pass and Ship’s Prow Pass.
