Vergelegen Nature Reserve
Vergelegen is one of the most remote gateways into the Mkhomazi Wilderness Area. The reserve protects grasslands, wetlands, river systems and undeveloped mountain valleys with very limited tourism infrastructure. It is most suitable for experienced hikers, wilderness travellers, birders, anglers and visitors seeking isolation. Routes from the reserve lead towards the escarpment, high-altitude caves and remote mountain passes.
Best Time to Visit
April to May and August to October. Access can become difficult during heavy summer rainfall.
Permits & Fees
Conservation and overnight wilderness fees apply. Visitors should contact Ezemvelo before travelling to confirm access conditions, road status and availability of facilities.
